Many thanks for the Amazon reviews following the release of Naming the Dead, my second Alexander Baxby mystery. I appreciate the feedback, and it’s a big help whenever people give Amazon stars.
Both Paying in Blood (Baxby #1) and Naming the
Dead (Baxby #2) are available on Amazon at UK Book
Link and US Book Link.
Please let others know that Paying in Blood is only 99p this month on a
Kindle Deal.
In addition, you can find maps and character lists

A-Z Amsterdam
Having unearthed lots of interesting details about 1600s
Amsterdam when researching Naming the Dead, I thought it would be fun to
share some history facts in an A- Z
Amsterdam series. So far, I’ve written letters A-F, with ‘C for Canals” and
‘D for De Wallen’, Amsterdam’s red-light district, have proved the most
popular.
Lambeth Palace and the Lombards’ Tower
All Saints’ Day seems a good time to mention Lollards – the
Catholic followers of John Wycliffe - who the Separatists in my novels knew
about through John Foxe’s popular Book of Martyrs. Lollards were
imprisoned for advocating Wycliffe’s English bible translation. Some were
imprisoned in Lambeth Palace, the Archbishop of Canterbury’s residence, which
Simon and I were fortunate to visit in the summer. You can read a short account
of our personal tour at Lambeth Palace
Visit . Aspects of History on-line magazine will publish a longer article
at a later date.
Writing Progress
I’ve started the second draft of the third book, in which Baxby
returns to England in very different circumstances from those in which he left.
There are lots of ends to tie, including the circumstances of his imprisonment,
but it seems to be coming together well, and I’m pleased to no longer have to
spell Dutch names!
My entry did not reach the Dorothy Dunnett Society/
Historical Writers Association (HWA) Short Story long list. Nevertheless, it
was good experience.
Other News
Since sending the last news email, our family has grown. Daughter
Zoe’s new baby daughter is ten days old now. She’s gorgeous, and the whole
family are doing well.
My cancer treatments are continuing to show progress.
Although my hair is falling out again, hence the new haircut, some other
side-effects have improved. I’m looking forward to more months and years,
writing books and watching grandchildren grow. 😊
Many thanks again for all the support and encouragement,
Karen H
