Karen Haden News - June 2025

Many thanks for the kind messages following my earlier emails about NAMING THE DEAD. Sharpe Books have now published the paperback version, available at UK Link and US Link. Already, there are already two lovely 5-star reviews on the Amazon page:

"Seventeenth century Amsterdam is the star of this book - it’s such an intriguing and colorful setting it takes on a personality of its own."
"It kept me hooked throughout, with some interesting twists"
As with PAYING IN BLOOD, I'd appreciate feedback and letting friends know, but mainly hope people enjoy the story.
Web-site
Again, I've put maps on my web-site. It was particular hard to research the layout of the 1608-1610Amsterdam. Unlike, the City of London which largely follows the medieval street plan, Amsterdam kept changing as the council cut new channels and reclaimed more land. Amsterdam Central Station was built on the site of the seventeenth century harbour.
There is also a character list , which identifies historical and fictional characters.
Spymasters Award
In other news, I'm excited to be longlisted for the Aspects of History Spymasters award. Even if PAYING IN BLOOD does not make the short list, I will be invited to presentation event in November, with a chance to meet other established spy novelists. Fortunately, Cheltenham Hospital oncology team try to fit appointments around important events whereever they can.
